A New Hideout (from distraction)


This week a new place opened in the town where I live. A new cafè! Our little town lacks the cuteness of other little towns. Maybe this new place will change things.

The Artizen Cafè is super cute inside and I'm able to get raw vegan options! (Friendly people too! Who answered my million questions over the three hours I was there and then posed for my picture taking. Haha) SUCH a nice change since I've lost my ability to go out for a quick drink or snack since going vegan, let alone raw. Even in bigger towns, let alone five minutes from my home!


I have plans for this place. Meeting friends, dates with my husband, quick treat stops with my wee girl, and a work spot as well. Actually, my plan is working already as I've made two blogs posts while here!! Yay me! ;-)

A business I started in 2002, which had grown in leaps and bounds since then, had a major change in the Summer of 2013. I downsized. Big time. I closed the doors to my beloved centre and didn't have a plan. Ever wonder what it feels like to be maced?

I have never been afraid of dogs. I have a diploma in Animal Care and worked at an Animal Hospital for a while. Not to mention, I’ve been around dogs for a long time and have two now – one being a Yellow Lab. But, I moved to the country when my mom died and then in 2008 started running. That’s when my fear of dogs began . On a few occasions I’ve been chased by unfriendly dogs where the body language was clear. They meant business. One occasion I was running with a friend and her dog and two large dogs, in a pack situation, charged us from quite a distance off their own property and bit my friend’s dog. I had another run-in with the same dogs while on my own. I was their focus at that time. Every time I had a problem I called police or animal control, who did nothing. But the last time I called the police and was crying and screaming into the phone for them to help me . They sent nobody. They did, however, call my useless animal control person. He, in turn, called me to ask who the dogs...

Summer –Pleasure or Pressure? Make it more positive!

Summer is a great time for relaxation. But, if you have kids who are usually in school and now off and with YOU full time you may be feeling the pressure. Pressure to make it fun for everyone... everyone except yourself. Although my daughter isn’t in school just yet our trips to our vacation spot isn’t as relaxing as it could be if we had more space. The constant chatter of a two-year-old; the constant whining or barking of our two dogs, at an out of the norm place for them; add hubby to the mix and... well... I would rather be at home, frankly. Two minutes of alone time is better than none at all! Be sure to have down time, even when vacationing. Not doing, just being. You need to turn your brain off which doesn’t mean sleeping. You will sleep better if you take that ‘no-brainer’ time. Take a walk alone, do yoga alone, sit and just breathe – alone..... quiet your brain no matter where you are.
